A group of Standing with Giants airborne veteran volunteers had been in communication with the Airborne Commemoration Foundation (ACF) and recognised an opportunity to create a lasting tribute to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem in September 2024.

In response, the Standing with Giants team set to work creating an installation commemorating Operation Market Garden, one of the most ambitious airborne operations of the Second World War.

The tribute features 108 bespoke airborne soldier silhouettes, each carefully designed and created to represent the courage, service and sacrifice of those who took part in this historic campaign.

Following its creation, the installation was entrusted to the Airborne Commemoration Foundation (ACF) in the Netherlands, ensuring the tribute could continue to tell its story beyond the 80th anniversary.

The ACF now oversees future displays of the silhouettes across the historic landing and drop zones, as well as in neighbouring towns and cities connected to Operation Market Garden.

Through this partnership, the tribute continues to bring remembrance directly into the landscapes where history unfolded, helping new generations understand and remember the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of those who took part in Operation Market Garden.
