POPPY REQUEST

Calling all Women’s Institutes - can you help?

(plus any individuals who would also like to help)

In 2024, a national WI call-out led by Standing with Giants volunteer and WI member Toni Briggs resulted in an incredible 37,000 handmade poppies being sent to us , forming a key part of our Normandy display.

As we prepare for our 2026 displays, we are restoring the plinths around our soldier storage crates , and we would love to invite WI members and individuals to knit or crochet additional poppies to add to the display.

No specific pattern or size required — you’re welcome to knit or crochet in any style you choose. Pins or fasteners not required.

Poppy guidelines

Red poppies (any shade of red is absolutely fine)

Where possible, please use pure acrylic wool, as it gives the best colour retention outdoors

(sometimes called “solution-dyed acrylic” — where dye is locked into the fibre and resists fading)

Groups can make as many poppies as they wish — the more, the better!

No specific pattern or size required — you’re welcome to knit or crochet in any style you choose. Pins or fasteners or tails not required.

Please include in your parcel

• Name of your WI Group (or)

• Contact name + details

• The total number of poppies enclosed (we won’t have capacity to count individually)

Closing date for poppies to be sent : 7 March 2026

Please Send poppies to:

We have had some feedback recently that Evri have unfortunately been returning parcels, as they don’t deliver to PO Box addresses, which has been very frustrating for everyone involved. please check with your courier they can deliver, if you see any tracking issues and the parcel is returned to you, you’re very welcome to resend it via Royal Mail.

Thank you
