I WANT TO LIVE

A Standing with Giants initiative

Broad Street, Oxford: Standing with Ukraine. Photo credit: Jules & Bean photography

This installation depicts a 13ft high Ukrainian Soldier holding a baby, leading a Ukrainian woman and child to safety.

From conception to completion, this powerful statue was created in just 12 days.

Dan worked in collaboration with artist, Peter Naylor, to help him produce his vision, which was laser cut out of 15mm sheet steel.

Oxford City & County councils worked closely together to provide the space in Oxford’s Broad Street in which to display it.

We are eternally grateful for the generosity of our private supporters, volunteers, and sponsors, who between them have enabled the whole project to happen.

Historically, monuments, tributes and sculptures come after the event, however for Ukraine we want to act now. If people have already donated to one of the Ukrainian funding drives and feel they want to do more we will keep creating the installations for as long as we can fund them. Dan feels imagery plays a huge part in war; it can send a powerful message to aggressors and show a meaningful message of solidarity to those in need.

Thank you - every donation makes a difference

See how we did it!

The link below will take you to a gallery showing how we installed the figures into Broad Street - there’s a lot of work inside the plinth to ensure the solidity of this 9 tonne free standing structure - including 7 tonnes of sand, 1 tonne of steel, and 1 tonne of tarmac.

Huge thanks to everyone who has helped with this project
